Kids with casts!
As a child of the ‘70s and ‘80s, you couldn’t get through a summer without seeing at least one friend show up to school in the fall with a bright-colored cast, covered in scribbled names. Broken arms. Twisted ankles. Road rash from bike crashes and tree-climbing gone wrong.
No one wanted to get hurt – but taking risks, pushing limits, and learning through trial and error was just part of growing up.
Today, casts are rare. So are scraped knees.
And it makes me wonder, have we become so risk-averse that we’ve lost something deeper?
Not just for kids, but for all of us?
I talk to people all the time who dream of starting their own business.
They have the idea. They have the passion.
But they’re waiting.
For the “perfect time.”
For more savings.
For fewer responsibilities.
I get it. Risk is scary.
But what if risk is also the price of growth?
Of learning. Of creating something real. Of living a life you’re proud of.
Starting your own business doesn’t have to mean betting the house.
But it does require stepping outside your comfort zone and being willing to fall, fail, or maybe even break something.
Just like we did as kids.
That’s where the real stories come from.
And sometimes, the scars too.
But also—the freedom.
The fulfillment.
The impact.
So here’s to taking a few more (calculated) risks.
To launch that idea.
To build something that matters.
Cast or not.
